Oftentimes, the most memorable places are the most overlooked, and the simplest pleasures in life are those that we fail to indulge in.
I’ve lived in the area for many years, but seldom considered the Sea World Guest House as a place where I could go and hang out, or spend quality time. Yet, a very unassuming (and tall) building houses a very promising and relaxing space for group outings or perhaps, solo and simplistic adventure getaways.
When it comes to locally owned properties, the Sea World Guesthouse has actually stood the test of time. Unshaken and unbaffled by natural disasters (be it tropical storms or hurricanes), “Sea World”, so affectionately called by locals, has been rebuilt, over and over again! Resilient, just like its owner Decima, who managed to transform her beloved place at every road block, which she eventually transformed into a road turn.
I used to frequent Seaworld several years ago, when I needed a place to practice for my ballroom/latin dance classes sessions (yes, there was a time in my life when I was enamored by Dancing with the Stars, and endeavored to learn Salsa, Chacha, Paso Doble and Rumba – which I did, by the way). What struck me the most back then was the fact that the Sea World Guest House offered ample space, enough for all the roulades on could possibly want to do. Decima later explained that the space was frequently used for group meetings, conferences, and other group dance and workout sessions (can easily fit a group of 30 – 50).

What Makes the Sea World Guest House Unique
As one of the most popular caribbean islands, Dominica offers a wide range of experiences (and by extension, accommodations) based on each type of traveler. And though it is not one of the most advertised Dominica hotels for visitors on the nature isle, the Seaworld Guesthouse has a peculiar charm and attraction that makes it unique, in its own way. If you’re looking for a cheap caribbean guesthouse during your caribbean vacation in Dominica, then the Seaworld Guesthouse is a great option to consider.
Location: First, it is located in the community of Newton, which is only 5 minutes away from the capital city (Roseau). This means, you can walk and easily navigate around town without the need of additional transportation (unless you want to).
Internal amenities: the Seaworld Guesthouse offers a large, spacious indoor area which is perfect to host large and small groups (between 30-50 people). And for someone who works remotely (like me), it provides an amazing co-working space, with a beautiful view of the sea – the most calming experience, ever. The property also offers in-house catering. This means, you can get your meals done and served on site! This also includes snacks platters (made of fish fingers, chicken fingers or any other delicacy you want to try out). And for a cheap caribbean guesthouse, this is a huge perk, especially if you’re on a budget-friendly caribbean vacation. Moreover, the “welcome bar” is stocked with local wines and punches! A great opportunity to taste local flavours if you don’t get the chance to do it during your sightseeing adventures in Dominica.
Activities: At the Seaworld Guesthouse, you can easily book a kayaking adventure – this is one of the best things to do in Dominica during your caribbean vacation! Because the property has direct access to the Caribbean sea, you can easily rent a kayak on site and paddle away, with or without guide (depending on your experience and comfort level).
Getting to the Sea World Guest House
The Seaworld Guesthouse is located in the fishing community of Newton, only 5 minutes away from the Capital City, Roseau (driving). Getting there is really easy. You can use your GPS (Google Maps), or if you’re driving, follow the mainroad from the roundabout at the Fort Young Hotel.
Things to do at the Sea World Guesthouse
I think the Sea World Guesthouse is a great option for cheap caribbean vacations, on the nature isle, Dominica. I’d recommend it particularly if you are planning a group event such as pool parties for birthdays, special occasions, youth group outings, etc. It’s a really easy, chill vibe. Book the spot (15 XCD – 5 USD or less per person, for pool access), bring your drinks and foods, and enjoy! And if you don’t want to be bothered with catering, Decima can organize to have it done for you.
And while there, enjoy either a kayaking adventure, or a local wine and punch tasting adventure! This would be the perfect addition to include in your Caribbean vacation. The Sea World Guesthouse offers a variety of local wines and punches. You can definitely create a wine/punch tasting activity there during your Caribbean vacation. Of course, you can’t drink and paddle, so kayaking first!
