Finding a job to work online at home can be a little tricky… if you don’t know where to look.

The online marketplace is getting more and more diversified, and new avenues to find online jobs open up everyday. However, for the new freelancer, it might be a challenge to know exactly what are the legit websites to find work online at home. During my coaching sessions with students and clients who want to work online, I often get questions like: How do I know this website is legit? Where can I find honest jobs? And most importantly… where can I find jobs for people in the Caribbean/Africa/Asia?

Not knowing where to find legit work online from home can be a huge deterrent for someone who wants to get started working online. To make the process easier, I am sharing my top recommendations of websites that have worked either for me or for my clients in the past. Ready to dive in? Let’s go!

Upwork.com

Upwork is by far the largest marketplace for people who are looking to work online and get paid instantly. Over the past decade, Upwork has made great strides to dominate the market and be on top. This is why everytime you search for “work online at home websites”, you are very likely to see Upwork on the top of the list. However, they do live up to their reputation. Upwork provides a wide variety of job opportunities for people across thousands of skill categories, in several countries around the world, and in different industries.

The downside? The Upwork fees (fees that are deducted from your pay) are 20% for every new project until you reach a certain cap. For freelancers and employers alike, this can be a bit costly. So, my tip when applying for a job online? Include the Upwork fees in your pitch (proposal) to make sure it is covered, just like that:

Fiverr.com

Fiverr started with the idea of creating small jobs that would cost $5 and above. It is also one of the websites that started to pioneer the term “gig economy”, as when you are on Fiverr, you create “gigs’ which represent the different services that you offer. What I love about Fiverr is the fact that you have an integrated learning platform (called “Fiverr Learn”) that allows you to learn or solidify your skills on the platform.

The downside of Fiverr is that instead of finding clients and projects, clients need to find you. And this is only possible based on how well you optimize your profile and your gigs. Additionally, some people might find the Fiverr platform a little bit harder to navigate. But I always recommend the people I advise to try it out for themselves and see what works for them.

Guru.com

Guru is also another great platform that you can use to work online and get paid instantly. It is pretty easy to navigate, regardless of your experience and expertise level. You can work online at home in different skills categories: writing and translation, sales and marketing, graphic design and web development, just to name a few. See what Guru has to offer

TopTal

Short form for “top talent”, TopTal is another great platform to check out. They claim to hire only the top 3% of talent, which might make it seem super competitive and intimidating for the new freelancer. However, as I like to say, there is a job for every freelancer at every level.

Have a look at the TopTal Interface and see if it might work for you!

People per Hour

People Per Hour is a UK-based work from home online job company. They connect freelancers with different skills categories to clients in the UK and around the world, and have great reviews too. You can find out more about People Per Hour here!

LinkedIn

LinkedIn has become one of my favourite online work networks! I remember when my mom had introduced me to it, and I was still… sleeping on it! What I love about LinkedIn is the fact that you can connect with people within your network, and even with people with whom you want to work with. 威而鋼 You can also find job opportunities specifically based on your field, expertise, experience level and your location.

I hope this gives you more confidence in your Online work pursuits and widens your horizons  – there are jobs everywhere, you just need to find yours!
