How to find online jobs for your skills!

Spread the love

If you’ve landed on this page, you’re definitely looking for an online job. And I am glad you’re here, because I am… not going to give you a job, rather, I will show you how to find an online job that is right for you.

The misconception that you have about how to find an online job

You probably don’t believe that you can find an online job. Or maybe you tried in the past, but it did not work because you either did not find the right job for your skills, or you fell prey to scams and decided to give up. Because of that, you’ve probably told yourself that there are no online jobs for people in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia or wherever you are. This is probably one of the biggest mental blocks that you will face on your online work journey. And once you overcome that, you have made a big step.

The biggest mistake that almost every beginner does

Whenever I coach clients who are looking to find a job online, I always ask them one thing: what kind of jobs are you looking for? And the answer always converges to: “anything, really”. I get it. You absolutely want to get something and you are looking for any offer that you can take to just get your feet off the ground and start working online, earn more and make that extra income from home. The truth is, by looking for anything, you are denying yourself the opportunity to actually find the right job for your specific skill set. And there’s more: aspiring freelancers who are looking for “anything” will fall for “everything”.

The two most common methods on how to find online jobs (and the one I recommend)!

After having coached over 200 students on how to find a job online, I can safely state that there are two strategies that people commonly use: fishing and niching.

Fishing refers to literally going for any jobs that you would see available out there. For instance, if you type “online jobs that pay” or “entry level online jobs”, you will see options like data entry, transcription, content writing, web research, completing surveys, virtual assistant, editing, proofreading” and the list goes on. Certainly, these are some of the most common and in-demand online work skills right now.

And whilst those jobs are legit jobs that you can do online and earn an income from, there are 2 main reasons why I would not recommend this method. First, these jobs are not for everyone, and they might not be for you. Everyone has a specific skill set that they come with and bring, and if these job categories are not within your skillset or do not overlap with your skills, you don’t have to force yourself to do those just because you want to work online. Secondly, these are not the only jobs available out there!

Certainly they are some of the most common because of popular demand, but they are not the only online jobs available! I have coached people from all realms of life: teachers, musicians, data engineers, IT specialists, lawyers, quality assurance agents, human resource managers, and they have all landed online jobs in their respective categories. I have also developed a free remote job directory, where my team and I browse the web and give you access to companies around the world who are hiring people from the Caribbean, Asia, Europe and around the world, in real time!

Bottom line? You don’t have to limit yourself to what you see first hand, and you can actually find jobs in your specific skills category. This takes us to the second method of finding online jobs, which is…

Niching.

By niching down, you are intentionally and deliberately focusing on one specific skills category in order to land a job in that category only. Now, you might be thinking: “this will limit my options, I want to cast my net wide! (again, thinking as a fisherman). But, here is the thing: by niching down, you are able to show your expertise in a skills category and only attract clients who are looking for people with your skills.

That way, you can focus all your energy and maximize your resources (energy and time) on finding the right online client for you. This means more focus, a higher chance of great reviews, and a bigger earning potential! And because I coach people who have a full time job and are looking for a side hustle online, niching works perfectly as it helps them save time and focus on their biggest strengths. This is literally the shortcut on how to find online jobs that are right for you.
