A Unique Vacation Villa: Villa Passiflora, Dominica

Spread the love

Exciting, beautiful and appealing vacation villas are redefining the landscape of travel. And when you couple this to eco-friendliness and sustainability, then you’ve landed yourself a beautiful vacation villa for your next getaway. Villa Passiflora is one of them! I had the opportunity to spend a few days there with a group of friends that I wanted to reconnect with. We went there in need of an escape, and we came back revived, with new memories and a new testimony! Keep reading, at your own risk of falling in love with Villa Passiflora, and making the booking for your next getaway!

Things that make Villa Passiflora Unique

Every Caribbean vacation villa is designed with a specific traveler type in mind. Villa Passiflora in Dominica is excellent for small and intimate groups of friends, who love occasional getaways, or plan special events such as birthday parties, engagement parties, or even destination wedding receptions. It is also well-suited for youth group retreats (15 years and above), companies executive retreats, and religious, christian retreats. Lastly, I’d recommend this vacation villa for intimate family reunions or family getaways.

Here are the key elements that make Villa Passiflora suited for these:

Large, ambient living space: for  groups of 6-8, Villa Passiflora has a lot of living space. Whether you are spending time outdoors or indoors, you will find that there is a lot of room to roam around, and everyone can have their little corner to escape.

Closeness to nature: being nestled in nature is always great for personal and group retreats, and Villa Passiflora offers this kind of feeling. Everywhere you turn around, you are surrounded by flowers, or a perfectly painted landscape view of the northeast coast of Dominica.

Sizeable rooms: the rooms at Villa Passiflora are suited for 2 guests (and the master bedroom can take up to 3 guests). They are self sufficient, and each room is equipped with its own bathroom and balcony.

Self-catering nature: this is particularly important in a vacation villa if you are traveling with your family and want to make homemade meals that “feel” like home. And even if you are not, cooking together helps to bond, and you can create such experiences at Villa Passiflora.

Infinity pool: an infinity pool have truly adds a unique dimension to every property. And at this vacation villa, it heightens its touch of “natural luxury”.

Important to know:

Pets on site –  it’s important to note that there are 2 dogs on site. If you are not used to living with or around dogs, or can be triggered, let the owners know before you check in, so they can make arrangements to keep the dogs at bay at your arrival and during your stay.

Kids-friendliness:  you can access different levels of this Caribbean villa using steps. Although they are slightly steep, they are climbable by older kids. Because the villa is also very spacious, it might be easy for the kids to be out of your sight pretty quickly. I’d recommend a stay at this place for kids at least 6 and above.

How to get to the Villa Passiflora, Dominica

Villa Passiflora is located in the scenic village of Calibishie, which is home to several similar Caribbean villas in Dominica. Calibishie, which is one of the nature isle’s self sufficient communities, is loved by locals, expats and visitors for this very reason (and many more). To get to this vacation villa, I recommend renting a vehicle (or going with someone who knows the island) as it allows you to navigate easily.

The Rooms at the Villa Passiflora

Spending time in the rooms at this Caribbean vacation villa was one of the most pleasing aspects of our stay. Through the architectural design and decor of these rooms, Ann and Bruce (the owners) truly managed to create an “authentic Caribbean nature luxury experience” .

There are 3 rooms in the villa: 2 queen-size bedrooms and one master bedroom. Each room is well-suited for 2 guests and equipped with its own bathroom, veranda and balcony. That way, each guest can enjoy the mesmerizing Caribbean sunrise and sunset views, from the comfort of their patio, and with their own privacy. The master bedroom is naturally larger than the other too, and opens fully at the center of the villa.

Though the bedrooms at this Caribbean villa were beautiful and appealing, my favorite room was the study. The vintage feeling that you get from spending time there gives it a “cabin in the woods” sort of vibe. Beyond the easy and appeasing decor and the lighthearted ambiance, I loved the fact that it generously opens up to nature and gives you a full view of “life outside the villa”. Perched at the top, I felt like I belonged in nature. I belonged there.

The Romantic Cottage at Villa Passiflora

In addition to the rooms at Villa Passiflora that can accommodate 6-7 guests, the property also features a romantic cottage for 2, which is separate from the rooms and brings about its own experience. Specifically designed for couples, the romantic cottage at this Caribbean villa is fully equipped with everything you would need for a romantic escape in the woods with your significant other. There is also generous living space indoors and outdoors, a self-catering kitchen, an intimate veranda and a fully functioning bathroom (with washing machine).

Note: when you book this vacation villa, you have access to the 3 rooms including the swimming pool. The romantic cottage is booked separately, and does not come with access to the infinity pool. The romantic cottage accommodates a maximum of 2 guests, and the villa can accommodate 6-7guests maximum (for sleep-in). Therefore, if you are coming with a group of 8-9, you should book both the villa and the romantic cottage.

The Restaurant at Villa Passiflora

Whilst there is no restaurant on site, there is a restaurant that is attached to this vacation villa. At your request, they can prepare breakfast, lunch or dinner depending on your needs. However, it is important to notify them in advance (when you book) of what your needs will be, to allow them to make provisions accordingly.

Things to do at Villa Passiflora

An idyllic escape from the everyday busy world, this Caribbean villa is ideal for two things: rejuvenate and relax. Don’t pack your days with activities, you’re going to need all the time you have to reset, relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Fun or bonding activities you can do during your stay at Villa Passiflora include:

  • Cooking together: grab your ingredients in the city or at the supermarkets and convenience stores in Calibishie, and create fun and daring recipes with your loved ones. It’s also an excellent bonding activity. For our parts, we believe we made the best pizzas we had ever tasted. At least, for the weekend 🙂

  • Swimming: whether the pool is warm or chill, taste the waters. Take a jump, if swimming is your thing! Just your presence (by the pool or in the pool) will add to the beautiful portrait that is already painted on that side.
  • Enjoying the beach close to the villa: did you know that there is a small beach access by the villa? Now you do! Within a 3-5 minutes walk from this Caribbean vacation villa, you can have your own private access to one of Calibishie’s most popular beaches.

Things to do near Villa Passiflora

If you love including fun adventures during your vacation stays (like I do), then here are some that I recommend adding to your vacation villa experience!

Plan a “pick what you eat” Fruit Farm Tour

This fun and educational activity was the highlight of one of our days at Villa Passiflora. We took the opportunity to explore a pineapple and passion fruit farm from one of the top farmers in the community (and on the island!) Lindon and Webster Marie proudly took us to their pineapple farm and walked us through the process of how pineapples grow, are maintained, harvested and sold. And of course, we picked some pineapples (there is a technique to it, friends) that we delighted in at breakfast that morning. We also stopped by their passion fruit farm and learned a lot about how their fruits grow from plant to vine! If you’re traveling with kids, I’d absolutely recommend this learning activity. And even as an adult, you will have a lot of “aha moments” and who knows, a deeper appreciation of the rewarding (though demanding) life of farmers.

Explore The Red Rocks, Calibishie

The Red Rocks in Calibishie are definitely one of the northeastern wonders you ought to see whenever you visit Dominica.  Red Rocks is a very uncanny, caved landscape formation, consisting of smooth reddened earth that has been compacted and shaped by both ocean and weather. The Red Rocks offers an unbeatable view of some of the neighboring French islands and the beautiful north-east coast of Dominica.

How to book Villa Passiflora

You can book your stay at Villa Passiflora directly from their website, or by contacting directly on one of their numbers here.

Escapes at this Caribbean vacation villa are in high demand, so I would recommend securing your spots at least 2-3 months in advance.

Cost: 1620 EC (approx.600 USD) for a 2-day experience, and 337 ECD (125 USD) per night for the romantic cottage. If you have a group of 6 adults, this comes up to 270 ECD (100 USD) per adult, for 2 days at a fully equipped, nature luxury villa in the Caribbean. This is a giveaway, if you ask me. I recommend this villa if you plan to stay at least 2 days, because the atmosphere, vibe, ambiance of Villa Passiflora calls for it. I did not realize that until I went there, and I hope that you get to experience this on your upcoming stay too!

I hope you enjoyed this review, and I hope that it makes you want to see more, do more and live more!

Tell me in the comments below: would you book a stay at Villa Passiflora? And if yes, which part of this Caribbean vacation villa appeals to you the most? I’d love to know!
