The Champs Hotel is a small boutique hotel located in Portsmouth, the second main city of the island. Perched on a hill in the scenic Picard, The Champs hotel offers a panoramic view of key tourist attractions in Portsmouth (the island’s second city), including an unbeatable sight of the legendary Cabrits National Park.

All my experiences at The Champs Hotel have been crowned with positive memories, and there is more than one reason why I would recommend it. The hotel is very comfortable and intimate, featuring a small garden, an outdoor pool and a pretty cool restaurant (decorated by artifacts from around the world). One of the things I really appreciated about the hotel which makes it one of the best hotels in Dominica if you are on a budget, is this: the service from the restaurant staff: always friendly, amicable and goes above and beyond to be accommodating. The Hibiscus Valley Inn is an intimate guest house (and less of a hotel) nestled in a tropical island garden in Marigot. With no close neighbors around, they really do provide a level of unmatched peace, calm and stillness that you don’t find very often. I added this to the list of best hotels in Dominica for couples because it really provides a secluded nature experience, perfect for reconnection. 

I wrote about other aspects that make the Hibiscus Valley Inn unique in its own way, to give you more perspective about whether or not this accommodation is the right fit for the kind of valentine’s day weekend experience you’re looking for.

The Hibiscus Valley Inn offers two types of rooms:

The nature bungalow room has a less polished and more rustic, natural feel. To top it off, there is a hammock on the room patio where you can chill, cooling off with the breeze of the island’s north wind.


The deluxe room has a more polished and  modern feel. It is more spacious (322 sq ft vs 182 sq ft for the nature bungalows), comes with more sophisticated furniture, and features  an air-conditioning unit, just in case the breeze of the island’s north wind is not enough to help you cool off.

Harmony Villa is an exclusive vacation villa located in Pond Casse, which is considered the “heart of the island”. The vacation villa is decorated with artistic artifacts from Dominica and around the world, making it perfect for the creative and curious couples. To me personally, it is the place where you feel ONE with nature. 

 

To say that Nature “chose” this spot, is an understatement. The Harmony Villa is situated at the heart of Dominica, literally. Close enough to the rainforest and the city center, this is one of the best hotels in Dominica (or accommodation options) if you want to really be nestled at the heart of nature. Close enough to other key attractions (like the Spanny waterfalls), that make you even closer to nature. Being located at the heart of the island, at Harmony Villas you feel everything. You see everything. And you can experience everything.

The Fort Young Hotel is definitely one of my all-time favorite and one of the best hotels in Dominica. I have stayed in, dipped in, danced at, and dined in on several occasions.

I don’t know what it is that keeps me going back, and perhaps it is a combination of different things: the fact that it is at the heart of the city, the historical aspect of the hotel, or the top level service that I get every time I book a stay.

And if you have followed me long enough, you would know this one thing: I can’t ever talk about the Fort Young Hotel without mentioning the buffet breakfast/brunch! A new favorite that stole my heart, I would go there everyday if I had the chance!

A tranquil boutique hotel located on the north side of the island (and 10 mns away from the airport), Pagua Bay House is one of the best hotels in Dominica for those who want to experience a stylish romantic retreat, and do not want to be disturbed. They offer private cabanas and suites with mesmerizing ocean views, adorned in style that reflects modern luxury + caribbean comfort. Each of the cabanas has enough outdoor space for private living, and one of them has a plunge pool where you can indulge and laze all day. Really, the choice is yours.

One of the aspects of Pagua Bay House that I love the most is, the coupling of the rustic and nature vibes with a chic and upscale feeling.

I particularly recommend this place for those who value quality time, unique experiences and natural intimacy. This is another favourite to add to the list of best hotels in Dominica (although it is an ecolodge).

The cottages are fully furnished and equipped, in such a way that you can prepare your own meals. Unless you simple want to have a “fully-taken-care-of” experience, in which case, you can decide to patronize the restaurant and order your breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Amplify your romantic experience by planning a picnic at the Tantan Park, or a horseback riding tour in the rainforest.
