Mero Beach Dominica is one of the best beaches to visit in Dominica. In fact, there are countless things that make Dominica uniquely rich. One of them? The lustrous Black Sand Beaches. Mero Beach Dominica is one of the island’s best black sand beaches is particularly unique. Not only is it one of the few beaches on the island with its own equipment (chairs and umbrellas just to name a few), but there are a lot more reasons why this beach is one of a kind. To me, here are the reasons why you should experience Mero Beach at least once in your life.

1. Mero Beach (Dominica) offers undisturbed intimacy

In Dominica, Sunday is beach day. This means that when you go to the beach, you’re very likely to meet someone there with their lover, kids, friends or entire family. And this is particularly true especially if you’re visiting Dominica in the summer. But we all have those times when we want to laze on the sand in perfect peace, read a book, or relax in the arms of a loved one, with no distraction. Luckily, there are specific days and times when you can actually get Mero beach Dominica to yourself (well, almost). Head over there on Saturday mornings (before noon), or on weekdays. You will find serenity. Guaranteed.

It’s like the water and the sunray hues form a perfect mesh of colors: it takes your breath away. Such pictures, you can’t describe: you can only feel the beauty of these moments, while you’re there: living them.

After having travelled to 20+ countries and 35+ cities, I have learned to appreciate the unspoiled nature of beaches in Dominica. The water is so clear that you can almost see your reflection, and so refreshing that it opens up your skin pores to new dimensions. At Mero Beach Dominica, the shores are so clean that you wouldn’t have to jump over unknown matter, rocks or stones. You can actually run on the beach (like they do in movies). 

I remember visiting South Beach in Miami, the most famous beach in Miami (where all celebrities go) and I felt unimpressed. There were marine algae everywhere on the shore, thick enough to use as a washcloth. Granted, it wasn’t yet the peak of summer season (I visited in May), so I was told that the beach usually gets cleaned up when celebrities come. I guess we feel like celebrities everyday at Mero Beach. The shore is always pristine. 

6. Mero Beach Dominica is one of the Best Black Sand Beaches in Dominica

Although the media tends to only portray white sand beaches when they make reference to traveling to the Caribbean, black sand beaches like Mero Beach in Dominica are gold. Black sand beaches are uniquely found in countries and islands with volcanic activities, like Dominica. They are magnetic (not just because they are attractive), because they contain magnetite, a black volcanic mineral found in lava fragments. Black sand is also known to have purifying and detoxifying effects for the skin. It is also known as an “anti-stress” component – now you see why relaxing on a black sand beach is a lot easier!

Rosalie beach, another beach in Dominica is also a black sand beach. 

Here are other Caribbean islands where you can find black sand beaches: St Lucia (Anse Chastanet beach), Martinique (Saint Pierre beach), Montserrat (Woodlands beach), Saba (Wells Bay), St Kitts (Black Rocks), St Vincent and the Grenadines (Black Point Beach), Grenada (Black Bay Beach), Guadeloupe (Plage de Salée à Bananier).

Diving in Dominica actually gives you the opportunity to discover rare marine species, which include batfish, electric rays, as well as seahorses. And the marine flora is just as enchanting! the marine flora is even more stunning. Added plus, you can also snorkel or even better, swim with the turtles (as did my good friend, Lincoln, in the video below!)

8. Mero Beach Dominica: One beach, many landscapes

Dominica is so beautifully designed, and when you visit Mero beach, you will get to witness this first hand. Based on where you are at the beach, you can actually appreciate different sceneries. It’s almost like turning the boxes of a rubix cube, and seeing different colors on each side. One moment you’re admiring the crystal blue waters, and another minute, it assumes an emerald hue. If you look on your left, you can see the city faraway, and on the right, gaze upon the island’s mountainous background. All these unexpected views actually make Mero beach the perfect background for videos and movie productions. You make your audience feel like you are traveling through different spaces in time. In reality, you never left. 

9. Mero Beach Dominica: M is for Magical Nights

When the bonfire brings light that reflects against the dark and starry sky, an evening at Mero Beach Dominica is transformed into a magical night. You can make a wish, a promise, or give someone a goodnight kiss. The whole ambiance is transformed, and you feel a new energy: whatever happened during the day is no more, you feel like it’s a completely different scenery. 

This is Mero beach, Dominica. And whilst I have tried to put in words the things I have felt while I was there, it still feels like I failed. There are places that are meant to be described. But others, are meant to be failed. 

Things to Know Before Planning Your Trip to Dominica

Getting to Dominica: you can get to Dominica either by flying, or using a connecting ferry from neighboring islands. Most airlines that fly to Dominica serve the Caribbean region. If you are coming from Europe, Africa, Asia or the Americas, you will need to make a stopover in another island (Barbados, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, etc.) If you are coming from the Caribbean, you can easily get direct flights to Dominica. Ferry companies also provide connections with neighboring islands.

Best time to visit Dominica: there are so many things to do in Dominica all year round, so every day is a good day to visit the Nature isle! But if you’re looking for specific activities happening on island, here are the best recommendations: 

• February – March: Carnival Season
• May – June:Jazz and Creole Season
• July : Dominica Dive Festival 
• September – November: Dominica Independence Season (during this season, the World Creole Music Festival is also held, at the end of October)
• December: Christmas season

Dominica Weather: in general, the weather in Dominica is sunny all year long. Just like any other Caribbean island, Dominica is prone to hurricanes. The hurricane season starts in June and ends in November. 

Dominica Currency: Dominica currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar. This currency is used in the 7 islands which are part of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). These include: Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Anguilla and Montserrat. 1 USD = 2.67 XCD approximately.
